School Counselor - Julie Thompson
Students have the opportunity to participate in monthly classroom guidance sessions that address such topics as empathy, bullying, conflict resolution, peer relationships, drug awareness, career awareness, study skills, test taking skills, and personal safety. However, on some occasions, small group or individual sessions may be needed for your student in order to address certain issues.
Small group sessions may include
groups for students who have recently suffered the loss of a loved one through death
groups for those who may be having difficulty adjusting to changes such as divorce in the family
groups for students having difficulty with peer relationships and conflict management.
In the small group sessions, students will learn how to understand and solve problems through discussions, games, activities and/or sharing with others. Parental permission will be required for students to participate in small group sessions. Please understand that school counseling is not a clinical form of counseling and that therapeutic intervention from an outside source may sometimes be needed. In those cases, the school will be happy to assist you in learning how to receive further help, if you so desire.
